Context
Creating a custom connection using AWS S3 is how you can load data to the CDP that are not supported by one of the native integrations.
There are two types of custom connections that you can create.
-
An automated connection using AWS S3
-
A one time connection where you upload a file
Prerequisite:
- You must be using the new automated data import workflow. If you are not using the new automated data import workflow, you should reach out to your customer success manager to integrate with Rev.Up
- Review the Create a Custom Connection article
Why would you create a custom connection?
1. You should use the custom connection option if you want to import data from a system that does not have a native connector and you want to automate importing your data using AWS S3.
2. You should use the custom connection option if you have a file that you want upload one time and do not want to set up automation.
Steps for Creating a Custom Import Connection
Step1: Add a ConnectionTo add a new connection, simply click the Add Connection button.
Step 2: Choose the custom connection tile and what type of connection you want to create.
Step 3a: If you chose to set up ongoing imports using AWS S3
Let us know what type of data you would like to load to the CDP. You can choose multiple types of data at one time.
Once you click continue, the system will create the data sources for you and generate two pieces of information that you can use to set up your automation.
- You will see path locations for each data source that you created. In this example, we created an account and contact source. After clicking continue we now see two AWS S3 folders for Account and Contact. The text represents the path location of the folders where you can send your account and contact data to for import.
- Although not in this screenshot, you will also see AWS S3 access information that you will need to use to get access to the above folders.
You can download the credentials and then click done. Once you have clicked done, you will be taken to the data source page where you will see your newly created sources.
Now that you have created the custom connection and the data sources, you can send a sample file of what you would like to load to the CDP to the AWS S3 path.
Each data source will have it's own path. In the example shown in this article, an Account and Contact data source was created. You can use the path locations provided in the downloaded CSV or copy them from the data source on the Source List page.
Step 3b: If you chose to do a one time import
Once you click continue you will be prompted to select what type of data it is, map your fields and create settings for matching to the CDP.
